Pain levels during sclerotherapy can vary from person to person, but most individuals describe the discomfort as relatively mild. The sensation is often likened to a stinging or burning sensation when the sclerosant solution is injected into the veins, however, this discomfort is typically brief and tolerable.

Mild redness, swelling and bruising at the injection sites are common, but these side effects usually subside within a couple weeks after your injections. Patients can often resume normal activities immediately, but it's advisable to avoid vigorous exercise for 48 hours. Be sure to keep treated areas clean. It is important to engage in light activities to enhance blood circulation. Compression garments may be recommended to aid in the healing process and improve results. Avoid lasers, sun exposure, hot baths, and exfoliants for 4 weeks post treatment.

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that involves injecting a sclerosing solution directly into the affected vein, causing it to collapse and eventually fade from view. Laser therapy, on the other hand, uses heat generated by a laser to ablate the vein, while surgery involves physically removing the affected vein. While all three treatment options are effective at treating varicose and spider veins, sclerotherapy is often the preferred choice due to its minimally invasive nature, lack of downtime, and ability to treat multiple veins at once. Laser therapy and surgery may be recommended for more severe cases, such as veins too large to be treated with sclerotherapy.

An in office consultation will help determine how many sessions are needed. If more than 1 is recommended, the visits should be spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
